Mechanical / Project Engineer

Position Summary

The Mechanical / Project Engineer will be involved with the design, development, modification and analysis of manufacturing and assembly products, processes, and devices.  The position will troubleshoot and diagnose problems with existing processes and and products and make modifications and improvements as needed.  The Mechanical / Project Engineer will also evaluate and recommend design approaches to meet production requirements for new or improved products and procedures.  The position will be part of a small team of hands-on engineers who are tasked with development, cost reduction, continuous improvement and overseeing manufacturing assets.The position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test and/or source various products, tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods
  • Source and test new and/or replacement components to mitigate downtime caused by component shortages or end-of-life notices
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services to ensure manufacturing procedures and instructions are followed to keep production equipment operational
  • Test new and existing production procedures to eliminate waste and improve quality
  • Revise design, documentation, and procedures as necessary to overcome production and/or functional problems with products
  • Test operation of new products and improve until reliable and consistent performance to specifications is assured
  • Evaluate Quality Control processes and make recommendations for improvements
  • Plan, execute, and complete assigned projects to achieve optimum productivity and design quality
  • Create, review, and approve drawings, work instructions, documentation, and procedures for production of assigned projects
  • Assist production to accelerate initial build of new products and continue to assist with production until production is stable and sustainable
  • Support sales with technical assistance and design for special projects; Assist in preparation of sales literature, brochures, manuals, and special quotations as assigned
  • Comply with company work rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace and enforce safe work practices
  • Perform other duties related to job as may be requested or required to maintain and improve operations

 

Experience and Skills

  • 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience required
  • Ability to read and comprehend work instructions, engineering drawings, and SOPs required
  • CAD experience (SolidWorks or AutoCAD) desirable
  • Experience in either instrumentation design and manufacturing, OR designing, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining production machinery desirable
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to concentrate on detail and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people from management to the shop floor
  • Enjoys ambiguous and challenging assignments; works independently with minimal supervision
