ROCTEST assisted BRGM (Bureau de Recherches Géologiques et Minières) in cavity monitoring in the south of France with tailor-made convergence rods. The objective of this system is to monitor deformations of overlay terrain and to alert in the event of unusual movements.
The BRGM manages, on behalf of the French Governement, the monitoring of former mining sites and actions to prevent the risks linked to the mine closure.
The end of mining and the gradual disappearance of mining operators have opened a new period in France: that of the post-mine. These sites present specific risks.
In the former ESPEYROUX Mine, ROCTEST accompanied the BRGM for the start-up of convergence rods specially developed and designed for monitoring this cavity.
These convergence rods measure the deformation between the down side and the up side of cavity using a displacement sensor with vibrating wire technology. The advantage of this type of sensor is to ensure precise measurement over the long term, with a sensor lifespan of several tens of years.
Roctest Group offers in its range of sensors a system of this type, made of stainless steel, with below an example of installation for two vertical walls.
