Pressuremeter Tests for the REM Light Metro Network Project – Montreal
The REM project involves the construction of an automated light metro network that spans the greater Montréal area, Canada. This 67-km network will include 26 stations, bridges, underground sections, and elevated sections supported on pillars. Its construction in an urban environment and the need to integrate it into the existing transport network (metro and commuter trains) represent major technical challenges. The project, which began in 2018, is scheduled to run until at least 2027.
Soil and rock pressuremeters (TEXAM and PROBEX models) are used regularly as part of this project. This equipment is used to characterize the in-situ mechanical properties of soils and rock masses. They are particularly useful for the design of tunnels and piles. Roctest’s contribution, facilitated by its geographical proximity, involves providing equipment and technical support to the various parties involved.
