The settlement plate system is used for monitoring the settlement level of fills and embankments from a grounded surface at minimal costing.
The settlement plate system consists of a square plywood or steel base plate with a cast iron FIPT outlet resting on a known reference surface inside a pit. Connected to this base is a succession of 1-1/2 x 5 ft SCH40 black steel threaded pipes connected by FIPT 1-1/2 black steel couplings. The total length of this system is determined by the given requirements.

Prior to filling the pit should the exact length of the system be measured precisely to regularly monitor the height variations of the upcoming embankment. Use caution during the construction activities surrounding the filling of the embankment to prevent equipment breakdown or accidents. To help protect the system, a HDPE protection guard can be added if needed.
Also, it is possible to incorporate piezometer and inclinometer sensors to this system at its base to monitor remotely for more precise data or other information.
